Letter From Superintendent

Dear Panther Families,

Looking outside, we see leaves starting to change and beginning to fall. Pumpkins are starting to emerge on doorsteps and we are all looking forward to the chill in the air that fall is certain to bring!

Here on campus, learning is in full swing! Our teachers are working hard to identify areas that we can take our learning outside and into the John H. Dover Park; creating a hands on learning environment where the curriculum is brought to life and curiosity is fostered by spending time in our backyard.

In addition to academia, teachers are busy establishing school standards and expectations by defining their daily routines and procedures. Routines blended with the teacher’s consistently high standards form a smooth running classroom, both indoors and outdoors, where children have the security of understanding their environment and are reinforced positively for their hard work and contributions to their classroom family.

At home, routines can also make completing chores easier for both parents and children alike. If children are continuously held accountable and expected to complete routine household duties at the same time, on the same days, in the same place, they soon begin to develop a responsibility for their commitment and contribution to the family.

September Library Skills

1. Library Rules

Respect the space: Keep noise levels low, return books to their proper place, and handle materials with care.
Check out process: Remember to check out books properly before leaving.
Return books: You may only check out 2 books at a time.

2. Identifying Parts of a Book

Front Cover/ BacK Cover: Look at the cover to get an idea of what the book might be about.
Title Page: This shows the title, author, and publisher.
Spine: the part of the book that binds the pages together and is visible on the back of the book when it's on a shelf

3. Understanding Characters in a Story

Learn to identify the main character and supporting characters.
Pay attention to how characters change throughout the story—what challenges do they face, and how do they respond?

4. Finding the Theme of a Story or Poem

The theme is the underlying message or lesson of the story. Ask yourself:
What is the main idea of the story?
What do the characters learn by the end?
How does the setting or conflict contribute to the message?

5. ABC Order

Practice putting words in alphabetical order. This will help when searching for books.
Example: "apple," "banana," "cherry."

Evaluating Online Information

In today’s world, knowing how to find credible information online is important. Here are some guidelines for evaluating the credibility of online content:

1. Check the Author:

Who wrote the article or blog post? Are they an expert in their field? If there's no author listed, be cautious.

2. Look for Reliable Sources:

Does the article cite credible sources? Websites that link to scholarly articles, official websites (.gov, .edu), or well-known publications are usually more trustworthy.

3. Check for Bias:

Is the website trying to sell something or promote a specific viewpoint? Be aware of biases that might affect the reliability of the information.

4. Updated Information:

Check the publication date. Is the information current and relevant?

5. Look for a Professional Desig

Happy October Panthers!

Now more than ever we need your support!

Each fundraising effort and PTA Dinner Night Out helps raise vital funding for the PTA which in turn goes to support our students and campus. These funds help to host twice monthly hot lunches and weekly pizza Thursdays. They send our Panthers on field trips and support our classroom teachers with needed school supplies, curriculum, and materials for projects. They allow us to host community events such as our Pancake Breakfast, Stone Soup, and the Chili Cook-Off!

WE NEED YOU!

October brings with it several opportunities to help raise funding for our Panther PTA. Our Blue Books sales will wrap up in the next couple of days, but you can also support us this month with our PTA Dinner Night Out at Panda Express on October 16th. Order online and pick it up, have it delivered, or eat in! 20% of each sale is gifted back to our PTA.

We are actively looking for Panther families to become active members of our PTA! For just $6.00 you can join our Panther PTA family and work to make a difference here on campus! Interested in joining? Send Mrs. S an email and we'll get you squared away!
