The PTA started out 2016 with two wonderful events. The Taste of Pioneer was an awesome success with 21 different entries and over 70 attendees. The Chili line up was a tough competition and the dessert battle was amazing. Not only were there entries from parents, Mrs. Burns brought her wonderful chili and there were several kids that entered too; Tucker Adkins, Brady Skinner, Abby Beddes, Ramzie Smith, Ilianna and Arwynn Milburn and Brooklyn and Rylee Ostermiller. Rebecca Beddes won the salad award with her Pickle Dip, Jonie Smith won the casserole competition with her Buffalo Chicken Pasta, Renee Berg’s Oreo Pie won in the dessert division, and Kevin Adkins won with his very spicy no bean chili. The overall votes and winner of the traveling “Golden Ladle” award went to Kevin Adkins. It was a lot of fun being at the Shepherd Lion’s Community Center visiting everyone’s families. A big thank you for the Lion’s in letting us use the center and everyone for chipping in and cleaning it up afterward. A big shout out of thanks to Kari Jones and Rebecca Beddes for their creativity and contributions to putting the event together.
The Reflection program was small this year but the PTA has several great pieces of art and literature to represent Pioneer School in the state competition; Payton Roth’s Literature piece “A Healthy Mind”, Carson Adkins’ photography piece “Don’t Give Up”, Jozie Jones’ art piece “The Colors of the Cross” and Tucker Adkins’ photography piece “Imagination in Pursuit”. They will all be competing to move on to the national level and a chance to win an $800 scholarship.
In February we will be helping the Library with it’s Bookfair at Barnes and Noble on February 13. The annual Pancake Breakfast will be on Feb 26 and the FUNraiser at The Reef will be March 4th.
